A three day mystery teaser campaign has set Twitter alight with a debate over whether Australia will ever have an indigenous Prime Minister.

The full page ad (pictured) ran in The Australian over the weekend and today with the tagline: “This will never happen”.

The ad also encouraged readers to discuss with the statement using the Twitter hashtag #IndigenousPM.

Full details of the campaign, including who is behind it, are set to be made public tomorrow B&T understands.

The debate took off over Twitter: “Question is, how do we make it happen,” on Twitter user said.

“#IndigenousPM will happen, will be entirely based on merit & ability. History suggests she/he will be PM of a Liberal Government,” said another.

“Well that worked!! #indigenouspm social media and print campaign…got my attention in two seconds flat. Now to #CloseTheGap.”
