Qantas gets sandy for Gold Coast return

Qantas has built a life-size aircraft out of sand to promote its return to the Gold Coast.

The aeronautical activation, created in collaboration with Tourism Gold Coast and Gold Coast Airport, will enliven Sydney’s Circular Quay this Friday evening until 7pm in front of Customs House.

The life size sand sculpture incorporates the inside of a Qantas B737-800 and is complete with a flight deck, six rows of seats, pilots and passengers.

Sand sculptures of Channel Nine’s Steve Jacobs and Dame Edna will also feature.

Until 14 February Qantas is offering its Facebook fans the chance win flights to the Gold Coast. To enter, fans can upload a photo of themselves via the Qantas Facebook “head in the sand” application.

Then answer in 25 words or less “why you would like to go the Gold Coast on your next Holiday.” The most creative answers will have the chance to win one of 10 return economy flights for them and a friend to the Gold Coast.

Qantas now offers three daily return services between the Gold Coast and Sydney operated by a Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

According to the airline, its return to the Gold Coast has received an overwhelming level of support, translating into record sales – continued strong bookings for both premium leisure and business travellers.

The activation, by Wonder, comes as the Gold Coast launches its new brand identity and marketing executions, created by Junior.
