Gumtree and Coles top Google brand searches

Gumtree knocked Commonwealth Bank out of top spot as the most searched Australian brand in 2012, Google’s Zeitgeist shows.

Commbank came in second this year to the community marketplace, according to the trend report, followed by ANZ, Telstra, Seek and Westpac.

Gumtree and Seek were new additions to the top ten list, pushing back Qantas and Optus, who both featured on the 2011 leaderboard.

But when it came to ad searches, big brands dominated with ‘Coles ad’ in first place, followed by ‘Lynx ad’ and ‘Samsung ad’.

The ad search list was rounded out by Woolworths, Samsung, AAMI, Coke, Big Brother, Nike, Qantas and Carlton Draught.
