The humble veggie patch has found a home on busy Sydney streets as a campaign promoting green thumbs sees JCDecaux street furniture receive a green revamp.
As part of the City of Sydney’s ‘Grow it Local’ campaign, which launched last year, JCDecaux has turned its street furniture into planter boxes.
On George Street near the Queen Victoria Building the out-of-home company has planted a flowering tea set.
On York Street near Wynyard a brief case is growing produce, a piggy bank is proving fruitful on Elizabeth Street and a pair of gumboots have become pots at JCDecaux’s Elizabeth street site.
“We love working with clients who push the traditional boundaries of the out-of-home format,” Max Eburne, general manager of sales and marketing at JCDecaux Australia, said.
“This campaign takes a traditional media space and turns it into an eye catching garden installation with an important environmental message.”
‘Grow it Local’ aims to encourage Sydney-siders to grow their own herbs and vegetables.
The campaign website currently has 500 registered garden patches in Sydney and 715 nationally.
The campaign went live on April 16 and will run through to May 6.
