Foxtel focuses on the NRL’s obsessive side

Foxtel is embarking on a new advertising campaign to mark the start of the NRL season – with the first spot launching on Sunday.

The campaign, created by Clemenger BBDO Sydney, uses a re-write of Tina Turner’s ‘Simply the best’ to give a tongue-in-cheek look at Australia’s obsession with footy. The new song is called ‘Simply obsessed’.

Paul Nagy, ECD at Clemenger BBDO Sydney, said: “I am truly obsessed with NRL on Foxtel so it was great to be a part of this important campaign. Hopefully this tongue-in-cheek take on one of my favourite NRL ads will help others with a similar issue find some comfort and understanding.”

The Chaser’s Andrew Hansen helped write the lyrics to ‘Simply obsessed’. The campaign features talent including Ben Ikin, Gordon Tallis, Paul Kent, Paul Sterling, Warren Smith and Nathan Hindmarsh.

Ed Smith, executive director of sales and marketing at Foxtel, said: “The start of the NRL season is a major event for our subscribers and we wanted to capture the excitement and anticipation of the game in our campaign.”

‘Simply obsessed’ includes TV and press executions, as well as radio, outdoor, online and social media.
