Droga5 has said the decision to open an office in London has nothing to do with its tender for the Tourism Australia account.
Last week, the agency confirmed that it’s about to set up shop in the UK in an attempt to strengthen the agency's presence in Europe.
Late last year DDB confirmed its intention to defend their Tourism Australia account after it was put out to tender. The group has held the prestigious client since 2008 and last August had its contract extended for another year.
However, government procurement regulations mean the contract must go back out to a public tender, with Droga5 now in the shake-up.
Sudeep Gohil (pictured), CEO of Droga5 Sydney, told B&T that establishing a London office had no link to the Tourism Australia tender.
“This is a strategic move … one we’ve been planning a while,” said Gohil, who confirmed that as of yet there are no plans for any staff to make the move from its Australian operation to the UK.
The Droga5 London office, which will open in June, will be led by CEO Kevin Dundas (pictured), executive creative director Nik Studzinski and head of account management Olivia Legere, and will partner a mix of existing Droga5 clients and other global brands.
Earlier this month, Droga5 scored a notable win by securing the business of Australian appliance company Sunbeam, following the agency picking up high-profile Qantas and Woolworths wins last year.
