Dove shows real beauty in clever sketches campaign

Dove has rolled out the next phase of its Real Beauty campaign ‘Real Beauty Sketches’ exploring how women view their own looks compared to what others see.

The campaign is a response to a survey which shows 54% of women globally say they are their own worst beauty critic.

In the film FBI trained forensic artist Gil Zamora draws sketches of seven women hidden behind a curtain based on their own descriptions of themselves, and then a sketch from a stranger’s description of them.

Most of the drafts from the stranger’s point of view showed a more beautiful, happier and more accurate portrayal of the women.

Zamora said: "When I was asked to be a part of the film for Dove, I never imagined how different the two sketch portrayals would be.

"What has stayed with me are the emotional reactions the women had when they viewed the composite sketches hung side by side. I think many of these brave women realised that they had a distorted self-perception that had affected parts of their lives in significant ways”.
