Leading Australian creative agency BMF has appointed Carlos Furnari as Creative Director for its Melbourne office.

Originally starting his career in Australia, Carlos Furnari joins BMF having recently returned from 15 years abroad.

Although Carlos spent time living and working in both London and Berlin, he has spent the bulk of his time away in Amsterdam after being lured to Wieden & Kennedy as a copywriter in 2001.

At Wieden, Carlos applied his craft to many of their global brands, including Coca-Cola, Heineken and of course, Nike — a dream client for a self-confessed marathon addict.

He also spent time working with various other Amsterdam agencies including 180 Amsterdam, 72 and Sunny, and Anomaly — all agencies established by Wieden colleagues.

During these stints clients included Adidas, Converse, Diageo and Samsung.

Carlos also spent time working in Wieden's Portland office, and in more recent years has developed campaigns working directly with Nike Europe.

During his career Carlos has received numerous awards for his work including Eurobest, Epica, Cannes Lions, London International, D&AD, German Art Director’s Club, One Show, New York Festival, AdPrint Europe, Sydney and Melbourne Award Clubs, among others.

Most recently he received the ‘Webby Awards’ International Online Campaign of the Year, as well as ‘Social Media’ and ‘Integrated’ Campaign of the Year at the Dutch Digital Media Awards ‘Spin’.

His outstanding work for Nike Europe has won the Runner’s World Magazine (Europe) Advertising Campaign of the Year and was selected for display in the permanent collection of the Louvre’s Mus√©e de la Publicit√©, Paris.

In addition, Carlos has been jury member for the European AdPrint Festival in Brasov, Romania.

BMF CEO Dominic Stinton said: “Carlos is a fantastic creative director with both European and local experience, and he possesses a winning combination of big idea thinking and great attention to detail.

“I'm confident that Carlos will be making more than just communication campaigns for our clients in 2014, as he refuses to be pigeon-holed by any medium or channel.”

Ricci Meldrum, Managing Partner of BMF Melbourne, added: "Carlos has already had a great impact on the agency and our clients, taking the work we are doing in Melbourne to a whole new level.

“With Carlos on board, I'm excited about what the New Year will bring for BMF Melbourne and realizing the ambitions we have to be a leading creative agency in Melbourne as we have long been in Sydney."

Creative Director Carlos Furnari, added: "I am very keen and excited to help BMF grow and create great work across a broad range of categories. But also, given my sports background, if you're a sports brand, or sports-related product now might be a good time to reconsider who you're doing your comms with."
