eBay's Christmas gift: first local ad in five years

What does the mother of the world’s fastest man, Usain Bolt, have in common with an Aussie mum of 15? They both feature in eBay’s 2013 Christmas campaign.

‘Know what they like, Find what they love’ is the line that epitomises the Christmas ads that focus on the ease with which a gift can be found via a simple search.

The campaign, created by Havas Worldwide Sydney, introduces a new search functionality that allows consumers to combine two different interests in one search to discover new products.

To demonstrate the speed with which gifts can be found, the local TVC features mum of 15 Jeni Bonnell.

The below ad is the first locally made TVC eBay has created in more than five years. It will go to air this Sunday November 17 with a roadblock across Seven, Nine, Ten and pay TV.

“This Christmas, eBay is encouraging Australians to rediscover the enjoyment of gifting. By simply knowing two things that person likes, users can curate a highly personalised gift guide of items on ebay.com.au,” Steve Brennen, eBay’s senior director of marketing and advertising sales, said.

“We’ve had lots of fun in the office playing with what people like and what surfaces as a result, it becomes quite addictive after a while.”
